Drinks all around!!!

This was a super fun order.  A friend of mine had her 2nd annual 39th birthday party and asked me to make the sweets!  We decided on a small individual cake for her and cupcakes for the rest of the guests.  The sculpted "Martini" cake was a vanilla sponge cake with strawberry mousse filling and champagne buttercream icing.   The olive was made out of fondant.

I also made two dozen pina colada cupcakes with pineapple, coconut buttercream icing and two dozen margarita cupcakes with tequila lime cream cheese icing.  YUM!!!

Dino-mite!

This cake was for my friend's little boy.  He requested a chocolate dinosaur cake.  She requested oreo buttercream filling.  ;)  I think they were both pretty happy, in the end...

Iced in green tinted vanilla buttercream. Modeling chocolate spots and spikes. White modeling chocolate "Happy Birthday" banner.  All red detail is done in melting chocolate.

A picture is worth a thousand words...

Finally-the long awaited pictures!  This cake is one I did for my son's lacrosse team.  It was a 38" long cake!  Chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and vanilla sponge cake with vanilla buttercream.  The whole cake is covered in fondant with piped icing laces and writing.  A fitting end to a sweet season!  Congrats to the Citrus Park Gecko's rec league on an amazing season.  Rah, Rah Gecko's!

Have you seen my pirate ship?

This one was for my little Benny boy's fourth birthday.  And so, my usual level of crazy detail was escalated to an almost dangerous level.  I carved each plank out of and stamped each nail hole into modeling chocolate,  spent hours molding sails and railings out of white chocolate, etc., etc.  And it was all worth it.  I love you, little Benny boy.  And I shall express my love through cake.  'Cause you don't mind that.  Ever.  :)

Unbelievable...

I cannot believe how this business has taken off.  I have had multiple orders each week and am so thankful for each and every one of them!  I have been able to expand my scope and do things for people I never even dreamed of.  I am so glad that everyone has enjoyed their goodies and  feel very fortunate to have played a part in each of their events.

I've started a facebook page and am toying around with the idea of a website.  For now, I have posted pictures of my most recent work on the page.  Please check it out and let me know what you think!  https://www.facebook.com/MrsSugarBritchesBakehouse

Now, friends, it's time to dig in my heels and get that mixer turning.  FIVE orders by Sunday!  I'm gonna be running on caffeine and adrenaline this week, ladies and gents.  Wish me luck!

Cakes for sale!!!

Holy orders, Batman!

Another successful week of cake orders has passed.  Last week I made a...ahem..."Top Shelf" cake (Think boobs...) and a Greek Flag cake.  Both turned out really well.  Well, I guess you could say all three turned out well...

Great news, considering this was my first venture into the world o' fondant.  Of course, nothing can be simple (AKA store bought) and I am totally into making everything from scratch.  So I made the fondant...from scratch...  Though it ended up turning out really well, it was a maddening pain in the tush to make.  I had lots of consistency issues with it.  However, I also learned an awful lot in the process, so I'd call it a win-win.  :)

This week I am working on an order for chocolates and one for decorated cookies.  I'm thrilled with how word of mouth has carried me, thus far. But I know that well will eventually run dry.  So I plan to work on some marketing this week, as well as trying to look into websites and/or a facebook page.  Wish me luck and I'll keep you POSTed.

When there's butter on my countertop, my husband gets giddy.

Well, at least he used to.  You see, butter on the counter top means that it is working (tirelessly...) to soften to room temperature.  And why would it be softening to room temperature?  Because I'm going to make my family some sort of sweet treat!

Not really the case, lately.  Batch upon batch of cream cheese icing and buttercream gets whipped up, along with various cakes and cupcakes and not a single bit of butter has been intended for my family's consumption!

Truth?  I am now taking and fulfilling orders for custom cakes and cupcakes.  While this is wonderful news for me, my family is constantly "led on" by my blatant butter softening.  I have seen the error of my ways.  I suppose I will have to make it up to them.  Perhaps a little cookie pie for dessert this weekend.  :)

Getting started...

Well hello there!  I have just started this blog to connect people with my home grown baked business and to show you all what I do.  I will be updating it and adding to it regularly.  Please bear with me  as I venture into this brave new world of blogging.
